What EVES Does

Equine Export Services

Export Health Certificates

Travelling horses abroad requires a large and slightly daunting array of paperwork including an export health certificate (EHC) for your horse / horses which must be completed by an Official Veterinarian (OV). At EVES we work closely with the shipping agent of your choice to ensure that your EHCs are completed accurately to allow you to cross the border hassle free.

At your request, the shipping agent will apply for EHCs from the government to be issued to EVES and they will liaise with us to ensure we have all the information we need to complete the documents. The first thing to check is that everything is in place to meet the requirements of the country you are travelling too. For the EU, this is usually just a blood test taken within 90 days of export and sent to the government (APHA) laboratory for testing. For other countries this could include swabs, additional vaccinations or veterinary supervision of your stables.

In most cases, a few days before travel, we will send a draft copy of your horses EHC to the shipping agent for approval with the border control post of the importing country (eg the port at Calais). Horses must then have a clinical examination within a day or two of travel after which the certificates can be certified.

Copies of the certified certificates are emailed to the shipping agent, again to be approved by the border control post. The originals will be given to you to travel with the horse.

Blood Samples

When you are thinking of travelling your horse abroad the first thing to do is contact us to establish the pre export testing required for the country you are travelling to.

The timescale for these tests to be carried out depends on the country but for the EU blood samples must be taken within 90 days of export. Where possible we allow 10 to 14 days for the samples to arrive at the laboratory and be tested, so booking this testing as early as possible is advisable. That said, it is possible to fast track samples, however, the laboratory charge an additional fee for this service.

Other Requirements

For certain countries there are other testing and residency / isolation requirements. EVES are very happy to help with these requirements in any way that we can and would be pleased to discuss these with you on a case by case basis

Prices

As an independent practice with minimal overheads we are able to make the veterinary fees associated with export more affordable. We will make the costs transparent to ensure clients know exactly what they are paying for and why.

For example, we will ensure that laboratory fees on blood samples are charged to you exactly as they are billed to us from the lab, no hidden fees and no mark ups!
